About Kindred Thicket

A mother does not need to become an entertainer, a lecturer, or an educational performer to give her children a rich education. She needs beautiful tools that reduce friction, carry the logistical load, and make it easier to gather everyone around living ideas. That belief is the whole reason Kindred Thicket exists.

Kindred Thicket makes clear, expressive Charlotte Mason read-alouds and done-for-you companion guides for beautiful living books like Our Island Story, This Country of Ours, and the Burgess Bird Book. It is a ready way to bring living ideas to your family, in a format you can reach and use right on your own living room television. We turn the original books into clear, expressive text-on-screen video read-alouds, with teacher supports, which may include vocabulary, map work, narration prompts, and copywork. The reading itself uses the Kindred Thicket Revised Edition, which corrects the original’s factual mistakes, historical errors and dated wording, and the companion guide includes accuracy notes, an errata that explains each change, so the mother can stay present with her children.

What we believe

Most educational products assume a mother has unlimited bandwidth, uninterrupted attention, and an evening free to prepare lessons. Real family life looks like babies in arms, several ages gathered together, dishes in the sink, and the beautiful unpredictability of home. Kindred Thicket was made for that house, not an imagined quiet one.

Our videos work as scaffolding. We carry the pacing, the transitions, the visual presentation, the read-aloud, and the prompts, so a mother can stay fully present even while holding a baby, pouring tea, or tending a toddler. The goal is never to replace her relational place in the lesson. The goal is to support it.

We bring living ideas to life. Rather than fast, bright educational entertainment, Kindred Thicket is rich and engaging: close observation, sustained attention, beautiful art, meaningful stories, and real discussion that sparks wonder. The videos include pauses for noticing, a narration slide that prompts the child to tell back and signals the mother to invite it, and moments for families to think and wonder together. We are not trying to dominate the room. We are helping hold the structure so families can turn toward one another.

Who it is for

Kindred Thicket is for Charlotte Mason and living-books homeschool mothers, often teaching several ages at once with little ones underfoot, who love the books but do not have time to prepare the map work, narration prompts, copywork, and accuracy checks for every reading. If you want the richness of the original books without the nightly preparation, this was made for you.

The standards we hold

Living books, kept beautiful. We begin with the real, original texts that Charlotte Mason families already love, and we keep their language and their beauty intact.

Historical and scientific accuracy, handled honestly. Living books written a century ago sometimes carry dated facts, outdated science, or wording no longer fitting for a child. We write a Kindred Thicket Revised Edition of each book, which corrects the factual mistakes, historical errors and outdated science of the original, brings old animal names up to date, and puts right dated and offensive wording. Every change is written up in plain accuracy notes, an errata, so you can see exactly what we adjusted and decide for yourself what to share. Where the matter is one of perspective rather than fact, we leave the passage and flag it, so you decide. Quoted historical passages are treated with more care than narration, and we explain those choices too. We would rather show our work than ask you to trust us blindly.

The prep is ours. The hook to gather attention, the moment to tell back what happened last time, the vocabulary, the places to know before reading, the narration prompts, and the list of key people are prepared for you and woven into the reading. The chapter-by-chapter map work lives in the companion guide. You press play and stay with your children.

The Kindred Thicket story

Kindred Thicket is a Charlotte Mason homeschool brand, made by a homeschooling mother for other homeschooling mothers. It grew out of an ordinary need: to read living books aloud, well, in the middle of a full and noisy home, without spending the evening before getting ready. Everything here is built to meet that need.

We hope the result feels less like consuming content and more like entering a rich family rhythm, one shaped by beauty, wonder, literature, art, nature, and togetherness. A safe place to learn in relationship.

We do the planning. The books come alive. Your child does the learning.
