About Kindred Thicket

Charlotte Mason believed that education is built on living ideas, not busywork. But bringing those living ideas into a full and busy home often requires more preparation than mothers have time to give.

Kindred Thicket exists to carry that preparation.

We create thoughtfully prepared Charlotte Mason lessons built around the living books families already love. Whether you’re reading Our Island Story, This Country of Ours, the Burgess books, or future Kindred Thicket titles, every lesson is designed to help you spend less time preparing and more time learning alongside your children.

Kindred Thicket prepares each lesson for three connected formats: a text-on-screen video read-aloud on YouTube, an audio lesson through The Listening Grove, and a Yoto-compatible shared playlist. All three are free. The library is growing, and each title page shows which formats are currently available while the rest are still being released. Our Lesson Guides and Complete Companion Guides deepen and extend that free lesson, gathering everything for it (vocabulary, key people and places, narration prompts, copywork, maps, pronunciation help, composition ideas, and more) so you don’t have to assemble it yourself.

Our goal is not to replace the parent. It is to support the relationship that Charlotte Mason considered the heart of education.

Real homeschooling doesn’t happen in a quiet classroom.

It happens with babies in arms, toddlers wandering through the room, several ages gathered together, and dinner waiting on the stove.

Kindred Thicket was built for that home.

Our lessons quietly carry the structure. We guide the pacing, provide expressive narration, introduce unfamiliar vocabulary and places, pause naturally for narration, and support observation with carefully chosen visuals. Instead of asking you to perform the lesson, we help you stay present for it.

The technology fades into the background. The books remain the center. Your family remains together.

Our Vision

Kindred Thicket is building a growing library of complete Charlotte Mason lessons (history, literature, nature study, picture study, composer study, poetry, and more) so families can spend less time gathering materials and more time encountering great ideas together.

Our Revision Philosophy

The living books that have nourished generations of Charlotte Mason families are treasures. We believe they deserve both preservation and honest stewardship.

Every Kindred Thicket resource begins with the original public-domain text.

From there, we carefully review each book for historical inaccuracies, outdated science, obsolete terminology, and language that no longer serves today’s families. Whenever possible, we preserve the author’s original voice and literary beauty while making only those changes needed for clarity or accuracy.

Every revision is documented in plain-language Teacher’s Notes and errata. We believe families should always know what has changed and why. When a passage reflects historical perspective rather than factual error, we generally leave it intact and explain the context instead of rewriting it.

We would rather show our work than ask you to trust us blindly.

Meet Sarah

Hello! I’m Sarah, the creator behind Kindred Thicket.

Before creating homeschool resources, I studied History and Political Science with honors and worked with the organization behind an accredited museum, a National Historic Landmark, and scientific and educational institution. I collaborated with historians, archaeologists, scientists, naturalists, and educators to help translate complex research into exhibits, publications, and educational materials that were both engaging and faithful to the evidence.

Later, I was an editor for an environmental law and policy review and practiced law, where careful research, precise writing, and thoughtful documentation were part of everyday work.

Those experiences shaped how I approach every Kindred Thicket resource today.

Each lesson begins with the original book. I verify historical details, update scientific information where appropriate, research illustrations and maps, document every editorial decision, and design supporting materials that encourage observation, narration, discussion, and delight rather than busywork.

Most importantly, I’m a Charlotte Mason homeschool mother of three.

Kindred Thicket grew out of my own desire to share these wonderful books without spending every evening preparing tomorrow’s lesson. My hope is that these resources make living books feel more achievable for busy families while preserving everything that makes them worth reading in the first place.

How long have you been creating educational resources?

Since 2021. Before Kindred Thicket, I created reading, copywork, and other educational resources used by both classroom teachers and homeschooling families, work that has earned a 4.8 average rating across more than 200 reviews from the educators who use it. Those resources are still in use in classrooms and homes today. Kindred Thicket is where that experience comes together with a background built around making complex material clear, and it is now the home for the newest releases, complete collections, free companion resources, and YouTube read-alouds.

What experience do you have teaching children?

Before creating Kindred Thicket, I taught 2,744 live online classes to 1,601 students while maintaining a 5.0 rating. I later designed and taught original, rigorous online courses for children, earning another 5.0 rating across 31 family reviews. I have also served as an in-person tutor in a classical homeschool community and have homeschooled my own children from the beginning.

That experience taught me how to structure substantial material, explain difficult ideas clearly, and keep children engaged without sacrificing depth. It now shapes the pacing, visual context, narration pauses, and supporting materials built into every Kindred Thicket lesson.

Yes. My Teachers Pay Teachers store is still active, offering reading, copywork, and other resources used by classroom teachers and homeschooling families. As Kindred Thicket grows, my main focus is creating Charlotte Mason living-book companions, nature study, history, and picture study resources. Some resources may also be offered on Teachers Pay Teachers, while others are exclusive to Kindred Thicket.
